This month’s issue of Girls in Capes has been rather a bit more serious than previous issues have been. My Editor’s Letter tackled an issue I find important, one that shaped the beginning of the site, while others addressed equally important and serious issues as well.
- Editor’s Letter: Why Visibility Matters
- Featured Artist: Maya Kern of Monster POP!
- An Interview with Ann Leckie, Author of ANCILLARY JUSTICE
- It’s a Recap: New York Comic Con 2013
Of the different pieces I did this month, my favorite was probably the Featured Artist profile. Maya was a great interviewee and absolutely great to work with! She also created an absolutely beautiful piece for our site. Next month, I’m looking forward to another excellent issue!
It was an exciting month, and I ended up at New York Comic Con! You can find my coverage at Girls in Capes, but here’s a preview: ATTACK ON TITAN dominated, and there were lots of comparisons of stuff to THE HUNGER GAMES.
I read some fascinating books this month: an ARC of FORTUNE’S PAWN, out in November, Rainbow Rowell’s FANGIRL, volumes 1 & 2 of the ATTACK ON TITAN manga, and Tamora Pierce’s latest title, BATTLE MAGIC.
Next month, I’m looking forward to working on the Fall 2013 issue of Rathalla Review, participating in different NaNoWriMo events (see here for October NaNo coverage), and wrapping up my current semester in graduate school, which marks my exact halfway point through the program!
