So – new year, new stuff, right? I decided that it would be fun to start tracking the review copies I receive for myself and for Girls in Capes each week. Partly as a way to track when I actually received them.
(Also partly to keep myself accountable, despite how few people read my blog, because if I post something here, I know someone will EVENTUALLY ask me about it.)
Anyway, you won’t hear from me quite EVERY week — I don’t get that many review copies for either myself or for GiC staff — but it’s fun, you can get a preview of what’s coming up, and you can find out what I’m excited to read next.
This week’s mail was pretty small — it is the first week of the year, and everyone’s just starting to get back from break. The book is Defy the Stars, the next novel out from Claudia Gray. I know Gray by reputation as the author of Star Wars: Bloodline, which comes highly recommended to me from a number of friends and reviewers.
Defy the Stars is a science fiction romance following teen soldier Noemi and enemy AI Abel. Robot romance “for fans of The Lunar Chronicles and Illuminae.” I’ve read and enjoyed the Lunar Chronicles, and Illuminae is sitting on my TBR shelf, waiting to be read. (Please don’t tell my writing partner, because she’s the one who gave it to me, and she’s already annoyed I haven’t read Of Fire and Stars yet.)
You can check out my progress so far on the 100 Books in 2017 Challenge. Have you finished any books in 2017 yet? Are you excited to check out Defy the Stars?
