Victoria Law over at Bitch Media has read 50 books by people of color for the past two years, and in 2015, she challenged herself to read 50 books specifically by women of color. Those of you who’ve been keeping up may note this is particularly in line with some of my more passionate pursuits, so in addition to my usual 100 Books annual challenge, I’ve also decided to make half of those books, comics, graphic novels, and manga created by women of color.
(Admittedly, the manga bit may be considered cheating.)
This list is cross-referenced with my list of 100 Books in 2016.
- [January] The Young Elites* by Marie Lu (Girls in Capes Book Club)
- The Rose Society* by Marie Lu
- Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier
- [February] Love at Fourteen Vol. 5 by MIZUTANI Fuka
- [March] Fledgling by Octavia Butler (Girls in Capes book club)
- Empress Dowager Cixi: The Concubine Who Launched Modern China* by Jung Chang (in progress)
